Posture… it’s more important than you think. Most people shrug it off like it’s as a minor tweak of their body and never think about the long-term consequences of having poor posture. Little do you know that posture is extremely important especially with training and exercise. If you have poor posture it makes it difficult for your body to reach its full potential. Poor posture while training will prohibit you from gaining any benefits from your workouts and poor posture equals poor form. Next to the obesity issues in our country posture is right at the top of that list.
Good posture is the proper alignment of your posterior muscles, transverse abdominis, and your spine especially the lumbar to get up right and center and having proper muscle tension (pretty much all your muscles play a part, but those are some of the more important ones). It’s the trainers and coach’s job to make sure their clients and athletes have great posture to perform their lifts efficiently. Even if you do have bad posture strength training is a great way to realign your body.
Why is posture important?
- It makes you look like you actually care about yourself with a sense of confidence and not a sense of inspiring be Quasimodo.
- The circulation oxygen through your lungs becomes more efficient.
- It keeps your bones, joints, ligaments, and muscles in true alignment preventing injury during high stress activities.
- Help prevent arthritis, joint pains, back pain, and other muscle strains.
- Allows your muscles to perform more efficiently, which prevents muscle failure, allows quicker movement, and full range of motion.
- Stronger and stable spine.
- Promotes a healthy digestion system with better flow of blood.
Personal supervision of each exercise is imperative make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck. Training with bad posture is like trying to run a foot race through quicksand… backwards.
